Barber Duties for 2024

Barbers have licensed hair professionals that cut, color, shampoo, condition, and style hair of mostly male clientele. Barbers also shave, trim, and style facial hair, such as beards and mustaches, give hot wax and lather treatments and administer facial and scalp treatments.

Barber Duties

• Welcome clients to the barber shop
• Listen to client's requests and recommend hairstyles according to current male hairstyles trends and clients personal preference
• Recognize hair problems and suggest appropriate treatments
• Put protective cloths around clients' shoulders
• Professional usage of tools as scissors, clippers, razors, combs, hairdryer
• Wash, massage scalp, cut, trim, curl, color, or straighten and style hair using clippers, combs, scissors, and other equipment
• Blow-dry hair and make a final styling
• Apply lather and shave beards, mustaches, necks, and temple hair contours, using razors
• Deliver hot towel service on the face to open pores
• Shape up and trim mustaches and beards with scissors
• Give client mirror to check color/cut
• Provide skincare and nail treatments
• Apply solutions to hair for therapeutic or styling purposes
• Use cleansing or conditioning agents to client hair, scalp, or skin
• Deliver face, neck, and scalp relaxing massages
• Provide cosmetic advice for clients
• Educate clients about the benefits of other barber shop services
• Emphasize professional hair and beard products benefits and assist clients in the selection of retail products for their hair care needs
• Consult clients and advise them of home hair and beard care needs
• Form bonds with loyal customers and remember their hairstyle preferences
• Maintains service quality by following standards of the barbershop
• Clean and sterilize scissors, combs, clippers, and other instruments
• Maintain hygiene and cleanliness in the barbershop
• Schedule clients or cancel appointments at the clients' request
• Receive payment from customers for services
• Record notes of work done, products used and fees charged after each visit
• Perform administrative duties such as hiring and supervising personnel
• Maintain the safety of clients by applying standards of the barbershop and legal regulations
• Anticipate product inventories required for the next period
• Use software for barbers on daily basis
• Proactively bring new clients
• Supervise apprentices and trainees
